Whenever you hear the words portable ebook reader many people automatically assume that we are talking about the Kindle. This isn’t their fault. After all, the Kindle is the most popular electronic ebook reader currently available in the market. In fact, most e-reader reviews focus on the kindle and its applications. However, there are many other portable ebook readers in the market that may not receive as much attention but perform the same functions as the Kindle. It is never wise to choose an electronic simply because someone else has one. You must choose the one that suits you best. Below are the key factors you must consider in choosing your portable ebook reader.
Shopping:
You are purchasing an electronic ebook reader so that you can read books online or download and store ebooks so that you can enjoy carrying around your very own library. It is therefore quite obvious that you will want to purchase a Portable ebook reader that allows you access to the ebooks that you are interested in downloading. Many e-reader reviews agree that the Kindle will give you access to one of the largest online bookstores, Amazon. However, the Kindle limits you to Amazon while other e-book readers offer open platforms. Therefore purchasing an e-book reader such as Sony or the Nook will give you access to free book resources such as Google Books and other online bookstores.
Memory:
If you are an ardent reader, you will probably be examining the size of the e-reader you purchase carefully. E-reader reviews agree that the Kindle is probably the largest e-reader currently in the market. However, some of the other e-readers such as the Nook have expandable memory.
Battery life:
If you are constantly on the move, you will want an e-reader with adequate battery life. You wouldn’t want your portable ebook reader going off right when the book is getting to the juicy part and you are a long way from home or any place where you can recharge your battery. The Kindle still comes up tops on e-reader reviews when it comes to battery life. However, the Sony PRS600 also shares the top spot with the Kindle. Both have been known to go up to two weeks without needing a recharge. This is quite adequate for the traveler.
Screen:
Look for a high resolution e-reader. The Nook and the Kindle 2 are known to have the highest screen resolution at 600 x 800 and 16 grey scale levels.
